Badlands - day five

Day 5: Canjáyar  to Capileira. 13 hours 14 minutes. 119. 3,470m.

The final day was definitely a trough in emotion. Having embraced the constant need to move forward by whatever means possible over the past five days, the prospect of finishing (and not doing it again tomorrow) was disappointing.

The final hike a bike meant we were approaching Capileira. I was sad the race was coming to an end. Badlands done.

Badlands was an intently personal experience. This account is only a snippet of the adventure. It’s an absolute privilege to be able to take a week away to ride my bike. This was hands down one of the best experiences I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy. It was all of an hour with a post race beer in hand that discussion turned to ‘what next?’

I wondered whether that was normal. And as the Audax group said to me in response to whether it is normal for my toes to be numb a week later, “it’s not normal, but it’s to be expected.”
